This combination of disciplines gives the consultants of ZRi the knowledge and experience to combine both technology and processes in an advice. Therefore, the role that ZRi can play in this project is both as a project- or process manager and as a consultant for building technology. ===== Opportunities for collaboration===== The contribution that ZRi can provide in this project is the expertise in the field of project management and technical advice on building scale. The strength of ZRi lies in the combination of project management and technical knowledge of the building process. Due to this combination, ZRi can be the collaborating factor between managing and technological parties. ===== Description of idea===== <WRAP box right minwidth:33%> <userpoll Rating> + ****** + **** + ** </userpoll> <WRAP centeralign> Please rate this idea! \\ Click on **Vote and view** to see the results. </WRAP> </WRAP> The idea of ZRi is to create a confined area by putting a glazed casing over four of the chosen buildings. The idea is that this confined area is a small visualization of the city of Eindhoven. This is the center of sustainability in Eindhoven where the first steps in the direction of a complete sustainable city are made. The buildings which can be part of the confined area are: Stadhuistoren, Stadhuis, Stadskantoor and the Tio-building. The properties and advantages of the confined area will be illustrated by the five focus points. The confined area represents a healthy and sustainable environment, which will be an example area for the entire city of Eindhoven. The idea is that the whole confined area is CO2-neutral. This means that motorized vehicles are not allowed in the confined area. People will be moving by bikes on the specified cycle lanes. The incoming air is filtered and clean. The temperatures are pleasant. The acoustics of the confined area are of good quality. Summarized; the confined area is the small example of the sustainable future of Eindhoven. An energy neutral city starts with a couple of energy neutral or energy efficient buildings or areas. The first step to create an energy efficient building is to use less energy. By putting a glazed casing over the buildings, less surfaces are bordering to outdoor air. This results in a lower transmission loss of heat to the environment in the winter and less heat entering the building in the summer. Due to the high insulation level of the used glass and the heat buffer which is created in the glazed and confined area, heat is stored in the winter, which increases the temperatures and less heat is needed. In summer period, heat can be released by opening the windows in the roof and on ground level. This creates a natural draft which cools the area and therefore, less cooling energy is needed. The energy, which is still needed to climatise the buildings and areas, is generated without fossil fuels. Examples of this energy generation are PV-cells in the glazed casing of the area or a connection to a biomass power plant for the generation of heat and electricity. The confined area is accessible for everyone, the buildings in it can be accessed by employees and visitors. This creates an open sphere for the residents of Eindhoven in the confined area, but it is still a save work environment for the employees. The open area has multiple functions. It will be a meeting place, there will be closed and open offices, possibilities for a restaurant and even a bar. By creating open workspaces and offices in the confined area, a high flexibility is created in the amount of office space for the municipality of Eindhoven. It makes the concept of ‘Het nieuwe werken’ possible and realistic. The area functions as a living lab and is the role model for the rest of the city. ^ Illustrating file|{{public:outline_proposals:subdata:proposals:illustrations:269-q24-illustration_question_9_-_glazed_area.pdf?400&direct|Illustration question 9 - Glazed area.pdf}}| ^ Type of idea|service| ^ Category of idea|technical; work flow| ^ Enabling conditions|One of the most important conditions for the success of this project is that the comfort level of the confined area must have a high quality. It must be a pleasant environment to work, communicate and to relax. When the idea is used, research is needed to investigate the best measures that need to be applied to create such an environment.| ===== Stage of development===== Proven innovation: it has been used in practice on a small scale. ===== Substantiation stage of development===== The technique which is used in this idea, is already applied for many years; in greenhouses, houses and office buildings. A large building where this concept is applied to by ZRi, is the Haagse Hoge Huis in The Hague. This building actually consists of 9 separate buildings, which are connected with each other by a large atrium. This building has proved that the concept functions on a smaller scale, the amount of energy needed is lower and the indoor climate is of high quality. ===== Provability contribution to sustainability===== Proven contribution to sustainability; this has been shown in practice. ===== Step in the right direction===== The idea contributes to the realization of the sustainable ambitions for a couple of reasons. In the confined area, less energy is used and the energy which is used is, among others, generated by the sun, wind or biomass. The buildings are preserved and the need for building maintenance is minimized. The area can be used for multiple functions by the employees, residents of visitors of the municipality of Eindhoven. Transportation in the area is possible by bicycles which are freely available in the confined area. All these aspects contribute to a healthy and sustainable environment. This small area can be one of the first steps to the realization of a sustainable city. ===== Flexible idea===== The idea is flexible due to the multifunctional area which is created between the existing buildings. The area has a largely flexible character and can be used for many purposes. This means that the municipality of Eindhoven can vary the function of the rest of the buildings, without many changes needed to be made to the facilities. ===== Good investment===== The created and confined area between the buildings is an area where social events will happen. As described, meetings or exhibitions can take place in the area and restaurants or bars can be established. The idea is that this area improves the social cohesion of the area and to improve the relationship between municipality and residents of Eindhoven. {{tag>public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:all "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:contributions sustainable Eindhoven":"sustainable city" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:contributions sustainable Eindhoven":"energy-neutral city" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:contributions sustainable Eindhoven":"attractive surroundings" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:contributions sustainable Eindhoven":"visible innovation" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:three principles":"quality in the long term" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:scope":"energy" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:scope":"services" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:stage of development":"proven innovation" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:contribution to sustainability":"proven contribution"}}
