 +===== Role of company/organisation=====
 +40% of the world's energy is used in buildings. Insulation has been proven time and time again as the most effective method, both practically and economically that can substantially reduce that. Knauf Insulation has the expertise to improve the sustainability of buildings by using different kinds of insulation; glasswool, stonewool, woodwool, EPS and XPS.
 +
 +===== Opportunities for collaboration=====
 +To achieve optimal efficiency of the buildings, the trias energetica and airtightness need to be taken into consideration. For this a collaboration with solarpanel, ventilation and installation manufacturers is crucial.

 +Urban Scape - a lightweiht Green Roof System by Knauf Insulation - Environmental Benefits: Reduction of Urban Heat Island effect, CO2 reduction (5kg/m2/yearly), Better watermanagement. - Economic Benefits: Extended roof life, Energy efficiency (up to 25% for heating and 75% for cooling), Sound reduction. - Social Benefits: Natural look, Usable greenspace. In order to reach a higher insulation value we can add insulation underneath the Urban Scape system. Urban Scape can be used in combination with solarpanels, it even improves the efficiency of the solarpanels. We are willing to talk to a Solarpanelsupplier to come up with the best sustainable solution. Facade: For Facade we could remove the skin of the building, make a timberframe construction and fill this with blowing wool or rolls of glasswool with a Lambda 0, 032. This can be combined with an airthight system (Home seal system) certified by GREENGUARD. The old skin can be re-used or a new exterior can be installed, for example bricks, plaster or panels. Our blowing wool, Supafil, has a low impact on the environment and is classified as Zero ODP and Zero GWP. Knauf Insulation glasswool is made of more than 70% recycled glass. Ceiling parking space: Using woodwoolpanels would be the best solution. They offer a combination of good insulation value, fire resistance an sound absorbtion. Partition Wall: Glasswool slabs for partition walls Acoustifit. Knauf Insulation is the only mineral wool supplier which uses an natural binder instead of a chemical binder (chemical binder has fomaldehyde in it). Our natural binder is called Ecose Technology. With this binder we have reached the highest level of Indoor Air Quality, therefore we are the only mineralwool supplier with the Eurofins Gold certificate, which stands for Indoor Air Comfort. In combination with Knauf Gips we can offer a partition wall solution with "Knauf Zeker" which guarantees a perfomance (for example: soundreduction) of the total construction of the partition wall. We have a special partitionwallsystem that has been certified by Cradle-to-Cradle, this has also been used in a project Nachtegaallaan in Eindhoven. Our glasswool with Ecose binder is highly recommended by architects and departments of government in buildings where indoor air quality is important, such as schools or office buildings.
 +^  Type of idea|combination of product and service|
 +^  Category of idea|technical; financial|
 +^  Enabling conditions|The most important thing about insulation is that is installed correctly. If that is not the case you will not save as much energy as you could and you will not fully benefit of what the products can do in terms of insulation value, sound reduction and fire resistance.|
 +
 +===== Stage of development=====
 +
 +Proven innovation: it has been used in practice on a small scale.
 +
 +===== Substantiation stage of development=====
 +
 +We have launched our glasswool with Ecose binder in 2009 and has since been rewarded with a lot of prizes and certificates. As our glasswool hardly contains any fenol-phormaldehyde we have a lot of succes in partionwall and timberframe construction. Our green roof solution Urban Scape, is relatively new in Holland but has been succesfully intoduced by Knauf Insulation in other European countries.
 +
 +===== Provability contribution to sustainability=====
 +
 +Proven contribution to sustainability; this has been shown in practice.
 +
 +===== Step in the right direction=====
 +
 +Our solutions are sustainable. They reduce the CO2 footprint, improve the indoor airquality and save energy. A focus on knowledge We are working hard to harness our knowledge and expertise in order to provide new sustainable solutions that deliver proven thermal performance. Life Cycle Analysis In a market where ‘green claims’ can be rather creative, there is a danger environmental benefits will lose meaning for customers. We analyse the impact of our products’ entire life cycles in order to give credible facts. More information: [[http://www.knaufinsulation.com]]
 +
 +===== Flexible idea=====
 +
 +Climate change and energy efficiency are major issues and insulation plays a significant role in delivering a sustainable built environment. It helps to reduce harmful air pollutants, as well as the costs of heating and cooling. We look beyond these product benefits to examine every stage of our products’ lifecycles. That way, we can ensure we are as sustainable as possible in their development and production. All innovated products and systems that Knauf Insulation introduces on the Dutch market have been tested thouroghly and are all certified by KOMO.
 +
 +===== Good investment=====
 +
 +A little energy goes a long way. Within weeks of being installed, our products have already saved the energy used to manufacture them. The cheapest and cleanest energy is saved energy.
 +
 +===== Comments=====
 +
 +In 2011, Knauf Insulation closed a deal with the municipality of Oosterhout concerning a sustainable transformation of the government property. In 2013 the city hall of Oosterhout was investigated by Knauf Insulation in order to make it more sustainable and to extend the practical use of the building wit 15-20 years. This proposal will ensure an immense reduction of the use of energy (>350 TCO2 emission yearly) and reduces the need of new products and materials. We would like to propose Eindhoven to close a similar Green Deal to make the government property stock more sustainable and extend the technic and economic life time. This has been a great experience for both parties, feel free to contact Ron Tuin of the Local Authority in Oosterhout.
