These manufacturers and suppliers are all experts and innovators. Our advantage is that we have an overview of innovations in sustainability and an independent point of view which is necessary to make an integral plan out of different techniques and solutions. ===== Opportunities for collaboration===== We are often part of project teams, which develop innovative new technologies. Examples are: infrastructures for charging electric vehicles, interactive public lighting, smart roads, energy utility centre’s, prefabricated insulation facades for renovation projects. ===== Description of idea===== <WRAP box right minwidth:33%> <userpoll Rating> + ****** + **** + ** </userpoll> <WRAP centeralign> Please rate this idea! \\ Click on **Vote and view** to see the results. </WRAP> </WRAP> The city of Eindhoven has the ambition to be energy neutral in 2045. This means the total energy use should be equal to or less than the sustainable energy production. Current production of sustainable energy is 2, 4% of the total energy use in Eindhoven. Studies show that there are a lot of opportunities in energy efficiency, reducing the total energy needs with 35% (including the effects of demographic changes). Combining energy efficiency with producing more sustainable energy could lead to an energy neutral city. To realize this ambition, the buildings owned or used by the City of Eindhoven could have a big impact: 1) With generating sustainable energy for the buildings and their surroundings. 2) By acting as launching costumers for a smart energy system, connecting demand and supply in the surroundings or even the total city. We call this the Connected City. Future Eindhoven will have a lot of different local (renewable) energy sources. Connecting these sources with energy use and storing energy is needed to secure efficient use of renewable energy and make the energy neutral ambition possible. A starter sustainable energy configuration could consist of the existing heatnetwork in Eindhoven. Other energy sources can be added, such as solar energy from building roofs, energy storage in the ground (for instance with the ecovat-system, see picture) If municipal buildings act as launching customers, other customers can connect to the energy system (housing associations, other office buildings, sports accommodations, etc) Connecting energy is one, but why not connect all different kinds of demands in the city, making it smarter, more efficient, and more flexible for future changes? Like a demand for work-space, meeting places, sporting facilities, an electric car to get me from A to B, sustainable and local food-production, etc. Using smart apps to connect demand and supply, starting with the municipal buildings. ^ Illustrating file|{{public:outline_proposals:subdata:proposals:illustrations:354-q24-ecovat_energy_storage_system.pdf?400&direct|Ecovat energy storage system.pdf}}| ^ Type of idea|combination of product and service| ^ Category of idea|technical; design; work flow; financial| ^ Enabling conditions|Partners: manufacturers and suppliers of innovative products, materials and services which are open to cooperation.| ===== Stage of development===== Proven innovation: it has been used in practice on a small scale. ===== Substantiation stage of development===== In the Netherlands, Smart Grids are already realized and working, for example in the greenhouse industry. Lots of different network and installation companies, are working on the development of smart energy systems. Ecovat has a technical solution for a 'plug and play' energy system. ===== Provability contribution to sustainability===== Proven contribution to sustainability; this has been shown in practice. ===== Step in the right direction===== A connected energy system in Eindhoven makes generating and storing local renewable energy possible. Combined with energy efficient buildings this would make Eindhoven energy neutral. ===== Flexible idea===== One of the requirements of the system is that it’s possible to connect new improved technologies in the future. It should also be open source. The impact on the environment is a positive one, because this plug and play feature makes the system last a long time, optimizing material use. Producing renewable energy even has a possitive effect on the environment, instead of demaging it. ===== Good investment===== Connecting energy needs is financially attractive. Current networks are not fit for the amounts of energy we are planning to produce in our cities. In Germany this already leads to problems during a sunny or windy day. Connecting and storing energy is the solution to our new energy sources. The system should be a ‘plug and play’ system. New and better techniques can be connected to it in the future. A system like this is thereby also financially attractive when it comes to maintenance, which is much easier and cheaper. For people, it could also be possible to connect to the smart system, using energy from the cityhall on a sunny day, raising not only awareness, but also making them feel connected. {{tag>public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:all "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:contributions sustainable Eindhoven":"energy-neutral city" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:scope":"energy" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:scope":"services" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:scope":"products suppliers" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:stage of development":"proven innovation" "public:outline_proposals:subdata:tags:contribution to sustainability":"proven contribution"}}
